Portugal’s ceramics brand, Bordallo Pinheiro has a long and exciting history that began with the artist and 19th century political disruptor, Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro. A major influencer back then.
In 1884, he began a ceramics production in Caldas and the award winning and much copied home wares of Bordallo Pinheiro were born.
Developed in partnership with Nini Andrade Silva, born in the island of Madeira, and one of the most famous interior designers worldwide, this new collection pays tribute to one of the island’s icons, the banana tree.
Various features, such as its dark wrinkled bark, large verdant leaves, delicate stem, and the banana itself are masterfully transformed into large platters and trays, small bowls and cups, gorgeous centrepieces and pitchers which recreate a tropical environment.
